It was built to showcase how recyclables can be used to build a structure. Use of homemade bricks, pinewood from sustainable farming, recycled hardwood from old homes, artwork and furnishings from up-cycled materials, promoting local artists, contained in small spaces were the features of Cabins, the first Eco Hotel. The rooms were to emulate the cruise ship cabins, hence the name.
Biophilic design was applied by studying the natural airflow and lighting that brought in nature to its interiors. Solar power has been installed on-grid, harnessing power from the sun, and a rainwater catchment is a source of water for cleaning and landscaping. The eco-features by which Cabins was built became the guiding principles of the rest of the Eco Hotels built all over the Philippines.
